What kinds of projects, tasks, or challenges do you typically partner with nonprofits on?
My colleagues and I work with nonprofit organizations looking to build or strengthen fundraising and grantseeking programs. Generally, the work falls into three categories: Assessments and Development (To identify challenges and create a solutions "roadmap"), Coaching/Training (to build your internal capacity) and Virtual Management (research, grant and report writing, communications, administrative support).
Why would someone choose to work with you?
Experience: Over a 35-plus year career in consulting, I have partnered with nearly 140 nonprofit organizations ranging from startups to mature organizations, from grassroots to global.
Expertise: I have deep expertise in the arena of grantseeking. As a faculty member of Columbia University's MS Nonprofit Management Program, I teach classes on the topic. I am a contributing author to "After the Grant" (Candid 2010) and appear regularly as presenter for organizations such as the Association of Fund Raising Professionals (AFP).
Approach: I take a very pragmatic approach to grantseeking, focusing on programs and priorities of my clients that intersect with current/emerging interests of potential funders. I also encourage and support clients in building visibility and thought-leadership, essential to helping you stand out.
My philosophy about grant writing is:
1. Make it direct, clear, meaningful and powerful.
2. Tell the reader how you can bring positive and lasting change to those you serve.
3. Respect the client's culture. Write in a way that is genuine.
